In Portugal, hunting plays a very important role on land management. A balanced relationship between hunting and conservation is fundamental. Restricting hunting activities, by creating refuge areas, aims to reduce disturbance in selected areas that can improve the habitat of local fauna.
Refuge zones are contemplated in the Portuguese hunting law, but are only mandatory for some hunting zones. The main goal of this project is to create refuge areas in hunting zones where these are inexistent and/or relocate existing refuge areas in order to create areas that are more effective in size and location for the wolf.
