The site selected for reforestation is a community land, situated in the parish of Tangil, Monção and district of Viana do Castelo. It is integrated in the Vez sub-region of the PROF-AM – Alto Minho Regional Forest Management Plan and in the Soajo-Peneda forest perimeter.  This mountain site is predominantly covered with spontaneous vegetation (heather, furze, ferns).

 The site occupies a total area of 7,51 ha, divided into 2 plots. The tree species selected for reforestation were pyrenean oak (Quercus pyrenaica), common oak (Quercus robur), and chestnut (Castanea sativa). Due to the presence of free grazing livestock in this area and in order to protect and increase the success of the seedlings, we fenced one of the plots and in the other tree shelters were applied.
