The site selected for reforestation is a community land taht belongs to the Parish of Sistelo, Arcos de Valdevez, district of Viana do Castelo. It is inserted in the Vez sub-region  of the Alto Minho Regional Forest Management Plan and in the Soajo-Peneda forest perimeter. The site is mainly covered by spontaneous vegetation (gorse, ferns and some scotch broom).

The project covers a total area of 3,25 ha. The pyrenean oak (Quercus pyrenaica) and birch (Betula celtiberica) were the selected species for reforestation. The area was previously fenced to protect and increase the success of the seedlings, considering the presence of free grazing livestock on neighbouring areas.
